Racing Club striker Lautaro Martinez admits speaking with Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone.

Martinez is expected to join Atletico next month.

"Simeone talked to me about his football philosophy and how I fit in it," he told TyC Sports.

"My idea is to stay at Racing Club and play in the Copa Libertadores, as this is a dream I have had since I was a kid.

"I expressed my position to the president of the club, Victor Blanco, from the beginning."

Martinez went on to discuss his chances of being included in Jorge Sampaoli's squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

"I work every day to be [summoned for] the World Cup," he noted.

"I've already talked to coach Sampaoli and achieving that would be a dream come true."
