Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz intends to play Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo as a striker once he is available for selection.

Ronaldo, currently recovering from ankle surgery, is close to his former United assistant manager, who said: "I do not want to mess around, it has to happen.

"I see only one position for Cristiano Ronaldo to play. And I hope he will be playing 90 percent of the game on the attacking line.

"But if he needs to be 90 per cent of the game in defence, he will be there as we're all together as a collective unit."
