QPR defender Anton Ferdinand has received a death threat accompanied by a shotgun bullet in the post.
A Scotland Yard spokesman has confirmed that an investigation into the incident, which comes less than 24 hours before the R's meet Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round, has begun.
"We are investigating an allegation of malicious communication received today at QPR football club. Officers from Hammersmith and Fulham are investigating," said the spokesman.
Ferdinand is of course at the centre of an alleged racism incident involving Chelsea captain John Terry who has been charged with racial abuse from when the two clubs met last at Loftus Road back in October.
