PSV chief Brands: Man Utd paying Antony fee was madness

PSV Eindhoven chief Marcel Brands has lambasted the fee that Manchester United paid Ajax for winger Antony.

The Dutch club, who sold Cody Gakpo to Liverpool for a significant sum in January, believes the £85.5 million their league rivals Ajax received for Antony was beyond expectation.

United were desperate to secure a winger late in the transfer window, with manager Erik ten Hag focused on signing Antony.

“If you compare it with transfers that were realistic, such as that of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City to Arsenal: that was also around that rate," he told Voetbalprimeur.

“Those are normal amounts. I think everyone in football knows that Antony was a madness.

“I think Raphinha [who joined Barcelona for around £55million] is an even better player than Antony, but he left for much less."
