PSG midfielder Stephane Sessegnon was on Wearside over the weekend.
The Journal says Sessegnon was in Sunderland at the weekend to discuss a possible loan move to the Black Cats.
He was understood to have spoken with chairman Niall Quinn and chief executive Steve Walton with regard to a loan to the end of the season with the possibility of a permanent move - believed to be in the region of £5million - during the summer.
Sessegnon is desperate to leave PSG after a row with coaching staff.
