PSG goalkeeper Gigi Buffon: Why I turned down Man Utd

PSG goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has revisited his decision to turn down Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson was searching for a replacement for Peter Schmeichel after the Denmark international moved to Sporting Lisbon after winning the Treble in 1999.

Buffon has now revealed the reason behind his decision not to leave Parma - the club he played for 220 times and led to Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup triumphs in the late 1990s.

"When I was a boy playing for Parma," Buffon said. "Ferguson tracked me closely for two or three years, and he'd always send scouts to watch me.

"At the time, Parma was my world and I didn't feel like leaving."
