Prospective Portsmouth owner won't be meeting fans

Sulaiman al-Fahim, the prospective purchaser of Portsmouth, has moved to distance himself from reports that he will definitely attend the AGM of the London branch of the official supporters' club on 11 July because the deal to buy the club may not be completed by then. Arabianbusiness.com claimed yesterday that the 32-year-old would meet fans on this date as the due diligence being carried out by Al Fahim Asia Associates, his investment vehicle, would have been completed and the deal "officially done", the website said, quoting sources close to the Dubai-based businessman.

However, Ivo Ilic Gabara, Fahim's spokesman, told the Guardian: "If the transaction is completed by then Sulaiman al-Fahim will be delighted to attend the supporters' assembly. However, if it isn't he will not be able to attend.

"I hope that you will understand that despite all his enthusiasm for the club, and in particular the supporters, Mr al-Fahim must be mindful of the state of progress of the due diligence and the negotiations."
