PREMIERSHIP WRAP: Man Utd move joint top, West Ham remain in bottom three but Villa and Birmingham win

Manchester United marked boss Sir Alex Ferguson's 900th league game by moving level with Chelsea at the top of the table with a 3-0 home victory over Wolves. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy made ten changes from Saturday's game but it made little difference as United dominated throughout.

A penalty from Wayne Rooney was needed to open the scoring and the hosts doubled their advantage through a Nemanja Vidic header just before the break.

The Reds third came in the 66th as Dimitar Berbatov brilliantly set up Antonio Valencia with an overhead kick for a 10-yard finish.

In-form Birmingham recorded a fifth successive league win by defeating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at St Andrews.

Cameron Jerome gave the home side an early lead as Rovers defence reacted slowly.

Stephen Carr set up Jerome for his second immediately after the break as Blackburn looked a beaten side until Ryan Nelsen pulled a goal back to set up a nervy finish for Birmingham who move up to fifth in the Premiership.

The battle of the cellar dwellers went in favour of Bolton who overcame West Ham 3-1 at the Reebok Stadium.

Lee Chung-Yong broke the deadlock for Wanderers after 64 minutes but Gianfranco Zola's Hammers were level five minutes later from Alessandro Diamanti.

Bolton regained the initiative following a mistake from England keeper Robert Green allowing Ivan Klasnic a simple rebound.

Gary Megson's men then wrapped up the points late on with a Gary Cahill header.

Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa continue to look on course for a top four finish after a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, where the Black Cats had captain Lorik Cana sent off in the second half.

Emile Heskey opened the scoring in the 24th minute but Sunderland hit back and missed chances to level.

James Milner then made the hosts pay with a superb goal from 25 yards on 61 minutes.

Things went from bad to worse for Steve Bruce with 11 minutes remaining as Cana was sent off for a second booking.
