Premier League players, Neymar, Bale miss out on UEFA Team of 2016

There were no English Premier League players selected in the 2016 UEFA Team of the Year.

UEFA.com users voted for their best XI from a shortlist of players from Europe's elite leagues but not one from England's top flight was chosen.

As expected, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi were front and centre, but their club mates - Gareth Bale and Neymar - missed out along with such players as Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) and Paul Pogba (Manchester United).

Eight of the 11 play in Spain's La Liga, two from Italy's Serie A and one from Germany's Bundesliga.

Th break down of nationalities is: Spain (3), Italy (2), Germany (2), Croatia (1), Portugal (1), Argentina (1), France (1).
