PREMIER LEAGUE: Late West Brom goal forces draw at Tottenham

West Bromwich Albion have denied Tottenham all three points by scoring in injury-time to force a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

Andre Villas-Boas' first home game in charge did not finish the way he would have liked after Spurs took the lead in the 74th minute through Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

The left-back hammered home a half-volley from close range thanks to a deflection off Baggies defender Gareth McAuley after Gylfi Sigurdsson's cross had fallen into his path.

But just as Tottenham thought they would record their first win of the season, James Morrison bobbed up for Albion with a 91st minute finish after William Gallas had managed to clear off the line.

Earlier, Spurs had the ball in the back of the net in the 64th minute when Jermain Defoe finished Assou-Ekotto's cross but the goal was disallowed as the linesman ruled the England striker off-side.

It was a frantic finish in the final few minutes and after Morrison's leveller, Spurs new boy Jan Vertonghen thought he had the winner when he volleyed home but an earlier infringement by Gallas forced referee Mike Dean to call the ball back, denying Spurs maximum points.

Tottenham: 1 (Benoit Assou-Ekotto 74') West Bromwich Albion: 1 (James Morrison 90+1')

White Hart Lane, London - 36,166
