Bolton showed tremendous character on a wind lashed night on Merseyside to recover from a goal down to defeat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park and move away from the foot of the Premier League. On a night when the wind was as influential as the players Bolton chalked up their fourth away win of the campaign and moved to within a point of safety with all the goals arriving in the second-half.
The stormy conditions contributed to Everton taking the lead just after the half-hour mark and looked to have set them on the way to their fifth home win over the Wanderers in six matches.
Toffees keeper Tim Howard cleared long and the wind caught hold of the ball which bounced over the head of Bolton counterpart Adam Bogdan and into goal.
But far from demoralising the visitors Owen Coyle's team replied within four minutes as David Ngog turned smartly from Chris Eagles assist to rifle home the leveller.
And with 12 minutes remaining defender Gary Cahill showed he was still on message despite an imminent move to Chelsea being discussed, when he hammered the winner from close range in what could be his final appearance for the Trotters.
Everton poured forward looking to equalise and in the final minutes Leighton Baines hit the woodwork with a free kick but Bolton held out for a crucial three points.
For Everton this was their fifth home defeat of the season and brought an unbeaten run of four games to an end.
