Tottenham earned a late winner in the 2-1 defeat of Birmingham and condemned the Blues to Championship football next season. Roman Pavlyuchenko opened the scoring for Spurs just after the break but when Craig Gardner equalised other results seemed to be mean the Blues would be safe.
But Wolves' second goal in their 3-2 defeat at home to Blackburn put City back in the bottom three on goal difference and when Pavlyuchenko scored the injury time winner it consigned this season's League Cup winners to second tier football next term.
