Pre-match handshakes will continue says Premier League chief

The Premier League has no plans to scrap the pre-match handshake ritual says chief executive Richard Scudamore.

Recently the Football Association decided to forego the handshake prior to QPR's FA Cup meeting with Chelsea at Loftus Road after an earlier incident involving Anton Ferdinand and John Terry.

On the same day, Liverpool's Luis Suarez fail to shake the hand of Manchester United's Patrice Evra in a Premier League match at Anfield but these occurrences will not force the league to stop the ritual even though QPR and Chelsea still have to do battle on April 29.

"It's not a handshake that says everybody loves everybody else," he told reporters. "It's a handshake that says, 'For the next 90 minutes, let's just play a game of football.'

"It's nothing more symbolic than that, which is why in our view they should continue. Period."
