Italy coach Cesare Prandelli felt for former club Fiorentina after they missed out on Champions League qualification.
AC Milan's late win over Siena pipped the Viola for third place.
"It is normal that they would be bitter about what happened last night," said Prandelli.
"The Champions League was there for them, and then went in 10 minutes."
