Gus Poyet is emerging as outright favourite to take the manager's job at Sunderland.
The Daily Star says Poyet has told Ellis Short he wants the Sunderland job.
Talks between Poyet and chairman Short are understood to have taken place.
The ex-Brighton boss last night fuelled speculation he was set for the Stadium of Light after pulling out of his media commitments as he didn't want to be questioned on Sunderland.
The club insist that Poyet isn't the only one in line for the job but bookies reckon it's a one-horse race.
