Poyet exclusive: No team can replicate Klopp's Liverpool

Liverpool's style of play under Jurgen Klopp is unique according to former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gus Poyet.

Speaking in an interview with Tribal Football , Poyet said it would be very difficult for another side to copy Klopp's style of play.

The Reds are currently 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Poyet also felt the tiki-taka style utilised to devastating effect by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola at Barcelona and Bayern Munich had been copied too much by other coaches.

"I think its unique," he told Tribal Football when asked about Liverpool's style of play and whether it could be replicated in LaLiga.

"You know, I think what Klopp has done in Liverpool is very unique. I don't think you can copy it. A lot of people in the world tried to copy Pep Guardiola.

"For me they're wrong but I can understand why they tried to copy him. Everybody wanted to play like Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

"But you don't see many people trying to play the way that Klopp plays because it's not that simple because you have to have certain individuals, individual players in certain positions to be able to produce that."

After retiring from playing Poyet managed both Brighton & Hove Albion and Sunderland, leading Brighton to promotion from League 1 to the Championship.

After leaving Brighton in 2013, Poyet joined Sunderland while they were struggling in the Premier League, saving them from relegation in 2014 before being sacked a year later.

The former Uruguay international left his last job with Bordeaux in 2018 and has been working as a pundit since.
