Portsmouth striker Defoe dismisses Spurs return talk

Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe has pledged his future to Fratton Park, despite interest from former club Tottenham.

"I'm a Portsmouth player and I'll continue working hard for the club," stated Defoe after Saturday's 2-1 win over Sunderland.

"Obviously, Harry brought me to Portsmouth and I was with him at West Ham, so it's only normal that people are going to say those sorts of things about me.

"I wouldn't say recent events have affected me. It's at the back of your mind but once you get out there playing you're not going to be thinking about it. That's also part and parcel of football. Managers come and managers go.

"I'm enjoying my time here. I'm scoring goals and I'm part of a good team. We're pushing up the table so why would I think about leaving and, anyway, Tony Adams is trying to build something here.

"He's a good manager and training has been fantastic all week. I am playing with good players and for me that is the most important thing.

"People are going to write stuff and ask 'is he going to go back to Spurs?' It's normal. Speculation is part and parcel of being a footballer."
