Portsmouth keeper James cools World Cup injury fears

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James is calm about his current injury.

James suffered a calf injury on Saturday and could not take his place for Pompey's defeat to Stoke City.

He said: "As much as the World Cup is the sort of end goal, the gaffer is right. England aren't playing until next year and I want to be playing for Portsmouth as I did yesterday and as I do on Saturday against Manchester United, obviously yesterday is gone and Saturday's looking unlikely.

"The frustration is I'm not used to being injured. I've missed a couple of games before the FA Cup a couple of years ago and since then probably missed about four games and prior to that I hadn't missed a game for five years so I'm not used to missing games and this pre-season, I should of taken a bit more time and let things settle down.

"It's been frustrating and the fact the injury was a calf strain and unrelated to the knee is annoying but then at the same time I'm happy that it's not the knee again. If it had been my knee I'd be looking at people and sort of asking 'why is this happening?' but fortunately it is not as bad as it could have been and it's just a case of doing a decent rehab program and if there's any luck for me this week then I'll be playing against Manchester United but if not then I will have to wait for a suitable a match."
