Portsmouth keen for Kanu to agree new deal

Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill is hoping Nigeria striker Kanu will agree a new contract with the club. Cotterill is eager to keep a player of Kanu's quality and experience as the Fratton Park outfit prepare for their Championship opener against Coventry on Saturday against the backdrop of ongoing off-field problems.

Portsmouth's boss told The News: "I've had a chat with King (Kanu), David Lampitt and Andrew Andronikou.

"Let's see where we go with that now. It would be really nice to have King around.

"Not only is he a great footballer, but he is a great man. Maybe there'll be some developments on that this week.

"If there is any chance we can keep him here I'd be delighted with that."
