Portsmouth confident over stadium plans

Portsmouth are confident plans to open their new stadium in 2011 remain on course.

The club hoped to begin work on their spectacular new 36,000 seater stadium by the waterfront next summer, but it has been claimed the project is now in danger.

A delay in making the planning application, which was due to be completed by the autumn, is alleged to be the stumbling block.

But Pompey responded this afternoon by insisting their relocation from Fratton Park remains on schedule.

A club statement read: "We completely refute any story that plans for the new club's stadium are in danger.

"The club would like to reassure fans that we are still on track for an August 2011 opening.

"We remain totally committed to an extremely exciting project that will benefit both the club and help regenerate the city as a whole.

"We are in regular and constant discussions and consultations with the city council and other relevant parties about our plans for the new site on The Hard.

"Our planning application will be submitted at a time when we are ready. The timing of this will have no impact on delaying plans for the new stadium."
