New Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill doesn't want to lose striker David Nugent.
Nugent spent nearly all of last season on loan at Burnley, scoring six Premier League goals.
The 25-year-old, who has one year remaining on his contract, has been quoted saying he does not see his future on the south coast.
But Cotterill told The News: "I do not know what's going on with David. I've got a bit of catching up to do with plenty of things.
"I need to sit down with him and have a little look at what is happening and what he wants to do. There is no point in writing him off, he's a good footballer.
"I just want a chat with him to find out the situation and I will certainly not be doing it over the phone. I know David from way back from when he was at Bury.
"I also knew him when he was at Preston and I was across the road at Burnley as manager. Whenever I have bumped into him, we've always stopped for a chat and got on. I don't envisage that has changed.
"David is a good player who can score goals at that level. I'm not going to forget about him, without a shadow of a doubt. I want to meet him and see what the future holds."
