Portsmouth boss Adams beaming after first win

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams was beaming after recording his first win as manager in their 2-1 victory over Sunderland.

He said: "Oh, I love winning, I love winning. I will take it any style, playing well, playing not badly, it doesn't matter to me.

"It is always a fantastic feeling for me. We are in a results industry, I understand that.

"We have had a good week on the training pitch and I have enjoyed that, and we have got a good result today.

"But of the four games that I have been in charge, it was probably the worst performance.

"Maybe I will go back to basics and start again in this game because I don't have a clue about it."

Jermain Defoe proved the hero as Portsmouth raised their game after the break after being dominated by the Black Cats for the opening 45 minutes.

He completed an unlikely fightback with the clock having ticked into stoppage time when he sent keeper Marton Fulop the wrong way from the penalty spot after substitute El-Hadji Diouf had tripped Glen Johnson inside the box.

The recovery process had begun when Algerian midfielder Nadir Belhadj blasted home a 51st-minute equaliser to cancel out Djibril Cisse's fourth-minute strike, although by that point, the Black Cats could have been out of sight.

Adams may have had a job on his hands at the break, but he insisted he is enjoying every minute of his new challenge.

He said: "I think I am ready and it's a great experience. Whatever the results, whatever happens, I am actually having a fantastic experience here. I am going to take it and say 'Thank you very much', and I will move on. It is a wonderful, wonderful learning curve.

"It is a tough division, it's a great and a tough place to apply your trade. Six years had passed now under Harry and at Wycombe and Feyenoord and Utrecht.

"I am not saying I have got it sussed and I am as good as Arsene [Wenger] or Alex Ferguson. But I am applying my trade and doing the best I can and having a fantastic experience."
