Portland Timbers' Porter lands MLS Coach of the Year award

Caleb Porter has been named the 2013 MLS Coach of the Year for his work with the Portland Timbers.

In his first season as head coach of the MLS outfit, Porter led the Timbers to top spot on the Western Conference table to finish the regular season with the third best record in the competition.

Under Porter, Portland also made it through to the second last round of the playoffs where they were beaten 5-2 on aggregate by Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference final.

38-year old Porter, who joined the Timbers from Akron Zips ahead of the 2013 season, easily beat New York Red Bulls Supporters' Shield-winning coach Mike Petke, MLS Cup finalist Jason Kreis of Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids boss Oscar Pareja to the prize which was voted on by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance.
