Pique: Real Madrid and Barcelona need Super League to be competitive

Gerard Pique has questioned the financial future of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Andorra FC owner feels both giants are falling behind their biggest European rivals financially.

Pique said, "Barça and Real Madrid will be forced to become sports corporations in three, five, seven years

"If you only compete in your national competition, it doesn't matter, because you regulate it how you want and we all play with the same rules. But when you play international competition, which is the Champions League, and there the teams are not regulated with the same rules, that is when this imbalance occurs that makes Barça and Madrid...

"Why do they continue competing? Because they are getting more and more indebted.

"Barça is pulling levers, Madrid is also going into debt... But there will come a point in three, five, seven years, in which the club will not be able to pay the interest on the debt. And you will be forced to make Barça a Sports Limited Company, and Madrid, which may take a while, more because it is a little better off economically, if it wants to continue competing in Europe, more of the same.

"Unless there is a Super League before, and Financial Fair Play is regulated."
