Barcelona know they risk upsetting Gerard Pique if they agree to meet Samuel Umtiti's new contract demands.

As the summer market edges closer, Barce are facing a crunch decision over whether to upgrade the France defender's deal or allow him to leave, with his current contract carrying a €60m buyout clause. Manchester United and Real Madrid are both in contact.

Diario Gol says the concern for Barca is that Umtiti is demanding he be paid over €6m-a-year. Such terms would see him earn more than Pique, who has long agreed to such a salary despite some believing he deserves much more.

Barca directors know they risk upsetting Pique, especially after his sacrifices over the years, if they agree to upping Umtiti's deal after just two seasons at the Nou Camp.

Adding to the pressure is Umtiti's brother and agent, who has commitments from United and Real that they'd match the demands they're making of Barca.
