Everton midfielder Stephen Pienaar says the club's Nigerian pair Joseph Yobo and Yakubu Aiyegbeni are fine in the aftermath of the gun attack on Togo's players on Friday.

News broke on Friday that a bus carrying the Togo players had come under gunfire with two players shot and the assistant coach, press officer and bus driver all killed.

Pienaar says it is a shocking incident.

"I saw it on the news yesterday," the South African told evertonTV.

"Unfortunately they went to a bad area where there are rebels and sadly that type of thing can happen. Joseph and Yakubu are okay. I think they are concerned though.

"It is disappointing for the tournament and it is a bad thing for the continent especially with the World Cup coming up this summer," Pienaar continued. "It does make you worry. I hope everyone can stay safe there over the next few days."
