Philadelphia Union has signed Guatemalan striker Carlos Ruiz from Greek Super League club Aris Thessaloniki.
An official announcement of this deal is expected to be made on Tuesday.
Ruiz joined Aris in July last year after spending about a year in Mexico with Puebla FC following a short spell with Paraguayan outfit Olimpia Asuncion.
He enjoyed a prolific and successful season with the Galaxy in 2002 – his debut in MLS – winning the Golden Boot with 24 goals as the Los Angeles club took out the MLS Cup. He was also named the MLS Most Valuable Player that season.
Ruiz has scored more than 80 MLS goals in over 140 appearances.
