The PFA have joined Manchester City in demanding Carlos Tevez return from Argentina immediately.
He defied club orders to return on Monday to resume training, telling them he was too depressed to report back.
But players' union boss Gordon Taylor reckons Tevez and City are at the point of no return after the Bayern Munich spat and could end the conflict in court.
"He needs to get back to his club to get himself fit, make up with the manager and then, if he does leave in January, depart not leaving a bitter taste amongst fans," said PFA chief executive Taylor.
"There are all sorts of options and I hope it doesn't end up in the courts, but he is high profile."
