Peterborough cool Everton link for Lewis

Peterborough have played down talk linking Joe Lewis with a move to Everton.

Lewis, who recently won a call-up to the full England squad, has attracted the interest of a host of Premier League clubs.

Peterborough's director of football Barry Fry is not surprised clubs are watching Lewis, but he insists he has heard nothing from Everton.

"It's a fact that everyone in football rates Joe Lewis. He is going to be a top, top goalkeeper and newspapers picking up stories linking him with big clubs is no surprise," Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph."But it is all paper talk at the moment. I have heard nothing from Everton, but that doesn't mean they are not interested.

"Manchester United and Liverpool were represented when we played at Wrexham last season, but no-one should read anything into that. Sir Alex Ferguson was there to support his son and Liverpool are usually represented at all Wrexham games.

"Our position remains the same. We have no need or desire to sell any of our star players. We are building a team to win things, not so we can sell players on for profit. And £3million would not be enough anyway."
