Perth Glory go for healthy alternative

Perth Glory has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Healthway, a health promotion foundation run by the Western Australian (WA) government, reports www.sportspromedia.com/ The agreement, which runs for the 2013/14 and 2015/16 Hyundai A-League seasons, will see Glory promote LiveLighter, an obesity awareness campaign, with the initiative's logo emblazoned on the back of the team's playing shirts.

The campaign, which is being promoted by Healthway and the Heart Foundation, will also receive advertising exposure around the stadium and on all marketing material, while promotional activities will be run at two home games.

Glory previously had a major sponsorship deal in place with fast food chain Chicken Treat.

Glory's general manager Anthony Radich said: "Two in three West Australian's are either overweight or obese and that is alarming. It is an honour and great privilege that we have been entrusted to promote and advocate the LiveLighter health message.

"Perth Glory Football Club sees itself as being an important part of the WA community, and we want to help make a difference, not only as a sporting club seeking results on the field but also as an influential role model off it.

"As an organisation geared around the optimisation of performance we clearly understand that there is no place for an unhealthy diet and that being active and having a healthy diet is the best course for success."
