Perez not bothered where he plays under Newcastle boss McClaren

Newcastle United's Ayoze Perez insists he is prepared to play anywhere on the pitch for Steve McClaren during the upcoming season.

Perez has predominantly been played in a wide left position in pre-season and with the arrival of Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer for big money, it is widely believed that the young Spaniard will struggle to get minutes on the pitch in his favoured striker's role.

Nonetheless, Perez is not concerned by which position he plays next season and has insisted that he will give his best whenever he is called upon by manager McClaren.

Perez told the Chronicle: "I've tried to give my best in pre-season but after that it's up to the coach to make the decision about who plays against Southampton. After that I just have to make sure I'm ready for the next game, whether that's starting or on the bench.

"Playing out there I can keep in touch with the ball and get plenty of touches. That's more comfortable for me. I'll play wherever the gaffer asks me to."
