Real Madrid defender Pepe admits they were fortunate to defeat Elche on Wednesday night. Ref Cesar Muniz gave Madrid a 96th minute penalty with the score tied at 1-1, when Pepe tangled with Carlos Sanchez in the area.

It was the Real defender who appeared to have pulled his opponent to the ground but Muniz pointed to the spot.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said after the game that Pepe had assured him it was a spot-kick. But in the mixed-zone post-match the Portuguese defender had told other journalists that it had not been the right decision.

"We really cannot talk about justice," he told Spanish television. "We are just pleased with the three points."
