Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson says it's crucial they secure his squad to new deals.
The Foxes earned promotion to the Premier League despite having 11 players out of contract this summer - plus Pearson himself.
The contractual headache even saw influential winger Lloyd Dyer quit for ChampionshipWatford.
Pearson is anxious to avoid a repeat with Leicester now tying down the likes of striker Jamie Vardy, 27, who has just penned a new four-year deal.
Boss Pearson said: "It is important for the club to protect our assets.
"It is well documented last season in terms of how many players were potentially going to be out of contract at the end of the season.
"For various reasons, financial reasons being very important in there, we didn't renegotiate a lot of the contracts until the end of the season.
"So we have done quite a bit of business in terms of securing the services of players who played a big part last year.
"And also renegotiating with some of our younger players who we feel we need to make sure we extend their contracts.
"We will be looking to do that throughout the season."
