Patrick van Aanholt has no regrets moving from Chelsea to Sunderland.

The Dutch fullback, 26, joined Chelsea as a 17 year-old from PSV Eindhoven.

He told Who Scored: "It is very difficult to get into the first team of Chelsea and therefore you must gain experience elsewhere and then try to get back. If you are ready, you get a chance and if not, then you will be resold. That seems to me quite logical.

"I do believe that if I had stayed at Chelsea, I would not have played so many games as I have done now. Through my loan periods I came to understand better football and have thereby also developed as a person. I am grateful for those experiences, because otherwise I'd currently not be at this level."
