Alexandre Pato hit a brace for AC Milan in their 2-1 Coppa Italia victory over Sampdoria.
Pato shrugged off doubts over his Rossoneri future to net both goals.
"Pato had a great game and I was especially pleased with his work off the ball," said coach Max Allegri.
"Emanuelson had a good first half, then he did vanish from the game slightly. It was only to be expected that he and Van Bommel would take time to settle, as they haven't yet had a single training session with their teammates.
"Today Van Bommel played wide and needed some time to find his position, so he did better in the second half."
