Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says securing local lad Steven Taylor to a new deal is crucial to their plans.
Pardew is aware of the need for home grown talent such as Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi and Taylor and wants to send the message out to the budding youngsters at the club's Academy who have dreams of one day joining them at the top level.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "To have local lads in the team is important.
"But more important it is for the fans.
"We need to make sure we are sending the right message out, that we are secure in the players that are local to us."
