Palermo's Bresciano drops Man City hopes

"I thank Eriksson for his kind words. Playing for Manchester City was a great dream for me, but there's nothing to say I can never make it come true, perhaps in January or next season," said Bresciano.

"I must also thank President Maurizio Zamparini, Coach Stefano Colantuono and director of sport Rino Foschi, who tried to help me complete this move to England.

"In any case, I am now at Palermo's disposal and ready to begin the campaign with great enthusiasm. I am sure I'll be playing for a side with real ambition."

Palermo coach Stefano Colantuono also explained the unusual situation to the fans.

"I spoke to Bresciano upon his arrival at the hotel and he seemed very motivated and happy to be here with us," said the former Atalanta boss.

"His desire was to try out an experience in England, not because he was unhappy at Palermo."
