Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway admits he fancied new Swansea City signing Jonjo Shelvey.

Shelvey joined Swansea City yesterday in a reported £6million deal from Liverpool.

And Holloway, who worked with Shelvey during his time in charge at Blackpool, told the South London Press: "We are not in the position yet to compete with teams that have been in there [the Premier League] for a couple of years.

"Jonjo Shelvey was on the list, I had him at Blackpool. But Swansea have been at this level for a couple of years and that puts them at a slightly different level to us."
