Oxford captain John Mousinho: Furloughing needed to save clubs

Oxford United captain John Mousinho expects players and staff to soon be furloughed.

Mousinho, a member of the PFA's management committee, warned that the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis would prove more damaging for players in the lower leagues.

He told the Daily Mail: "It is inevitable that Football League clubs will have to furlough players and staff.

"It will save football league clubs and it will keep them alive because wages are the biggest outgoings.

"If we have a squad of 25 and all of a sudden you can take a large amount off the wage bill every month that will probably be a real lifeline for most clubs, so I see that happening for April payroll and I don't think that is unreasonable.

"There are so many stories of clubs going into administration at the best of times so when the revenue has completely dried up it is necessary."
