O'Neill hails Villa's "best win of season"

Martin O'Neill says Aston Villa's 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers was their best of the season.

Villa were well below their best and trailed to a first half goal from Stephen Warnock as their recent heavy schedule appeared to take its toll.

But Luke Young levelled in first-half injury-time and then Gareth Barry and Gabriel Agbonlahor hit the target before Brett Emerton's late consolation free-kick.

O'Neill said: "I thought it was our best win of the season because we were a million miles away from being at our best.

"I thought we played second fiddle throughout the first half and just couldn't get to grips with things.

"We had no great energy and maybe playing our third game in just six days caught up with us.

"Maybe John Carew coming on in the second half gave us a bit more focus or maybe it was the equaliser just before half-time.

"But I was delighted with the win because for most of the game we were second best. That's the reason why I think it was our best win.

"Blackburn caused us problems and they were unlucky but I can't fault the effort of the players even though it was misguided tonight."

O'Neill added: Our passing was poor, there was also some clumsy defending at times but they somehow conjured a result from somewhere.

"James Milner worked miracles to set up our second goal and then Gabby breaks away and scores a great third goal."
