Old Firm rivals to meet in Scottish League Cup

Rangers will meet Celtic in the 2010/11 Co-operative Insurance Scottish League Cup final after defeating Motherwell 2-1 on Sunday.

USA international Maurice Edu opened the scoring for 'Gers in the 20th minute with a thunderous 25-yard striker past 'Well keeper Darren Randolph but the Steelmen equalised in the 66th minute when Keith Lasley lashed home from 20 yards.

With 15 minutes remaining, Rangers eased the nerves of their fans when Steven Naismith headed home from six yards after being found by Nikica Jelavic from the left.

It sets up a tantalizing encounter between Rangers and Celtic at Hampden Park on March 20 and one that 'Gers boss Walter Smith was looking forward to.

"It's just good to get to a final regardless," said Smith.

"Celtic had a good win [against Aberdeen] to get there.

"These things throw themselves up at times. We have four league games against Celtic to start with and we also have the opportunity to meet each other in the cup ties.

"That's what's happened this year and we are going to have four games between now and the end of the season.

"The games so far this year have been good games so it will be interesting to see how the four games pan out.

"They will only be important if we continue to win against the rest of the teams as well.

"We have an important game against Hearts on Wednesday night and hopefully we can get the boys together again and be ready for that."
