Ognenovski urges Socceroos to use experience at World Cup

Sydney FC defender Sasa Ognenovski believes Australia national team boss Ange Postecoglou needs to consider some experienced players for the 2014 World Cup.

The Socceroos head coach has been toying with the idea of taking a very young and inexperienced squad to Brazil in order to build a new 'golden generation' but 34-year old centre-back Ognenovski has implored him to take some players with big-game know-how.

"Experience is vital at the World Cup," Ognenovski, who won the 2010 Asian Champions League with Seongnam Ilhwa, told foxsports.com.au.

"You're coming up against the world's best teams - especially in Group B (against Spain, Holland and Chile).

"The youth policy is great but sometimes you need experienced heads to steer the team in the right direction."

As for taking experienced heads to Brazil, 22-times capped Ognenovski suggested he still harbours ambitions to be one of those elder statesman among the fledgling Socceroos.

"I need to keep doing what I'm doing, playing at my best," Ognenovski, who has appeared in four matches for the Sky Blues since joining from Umm-Salal in February, added.

"Whether that's good enough for Ange remains to be seen. I just have to perform each week at a level that will catch his eye then hopefully I can get on that plane."
