Sunderland coach Charlie Oatway admits they're keen to hold onto Liverpool striker Fabio Borini.
Borini is set to return to Anfield following Sunday's final game of the season against Swansea, and his future next season is unclear.
"Fab has done brilliantly for us, and as a guy he is a gentleman," Oatway told the Evening Chronicle.
"His work ethic and workrate - on a daily basis, never mind on a matchday - is phenomenal.
"But it's a decision for another club [Liverpool], and it's something that we can't even have an opinion about as yet.
"He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with us, we've thoroughly enjoyed having him and it would be lovely to have him as our player, but that's not the situation.
"We'll just have to wait and see on that one."
