O'Neill: I didn't expect Leicester to face relegation

Former Leicester City boss Martin O'Neill has called on the players to show greater fight.

The Foxes are facing relegation, with Liverpool next up on Monday night.

"Fear is not going to be something that will work for Leicester City, considering the numbers of players that would leave (in the summer), so you have to find something else. It is that pride and that's what I'm talking about," O'Neill told talkSPORT.

“You're involved with a football club that has got a bit of history, fantastic recent history and nearly getting into the Champions League for a couple of years. Now, suddenly, all of that's disappeared.

“You've got to have some pride for it. I don't care whether you're leaving on the next bus in June, you're here now and you're going to have to fight for it. That fight didn't seem to be apparent at Craven Cottage."

O'Neill also admitted: “I didn't think for one minute they would go down. It's not this business of 'you're too good to go down' but I genuinely thought they had enough.

“Suddenly, they lost the (Fulham) game, they didn't by all accounts - I only saw the highlights- show a great deal of spark against Fulham.

"That's dangerous coming towards the end of the season. You've got to be fighting for absolutely everything. If you haven't thrown your body in front of a ball for 34 games before that, sorry mate, you're going to have to do it this time."
