NYRB, Socceroos relieved after Cahill injury scare

Tim Cahill has been cleared of a torn hamstring following scans on the troubled area.

The Australian midfielder sustained a strain in his hamstring during New York Red Bulls' 1-1 draw with Chivas USA on the weekend, prompting fears of a serious injury.

However, Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke says he is likely to miss just two weeks in what is great news for both the MLS club and the Socceroos ahead of this year's World Cup in Brazil.

"He is out for this weekend, it is a mild hamstring strain," Petke said.

"I hope to have him back in two weeks but for now he is out for the next match for sure.

"The conversations I have had with our medical department is that it's not a tear, it is definitely a strain.

"The thing with Tim is that someone says he will be out for two weeks, and he will come back in a week and a half.

"At the moment they are saying best case scenario is two weeks."

Additionally, Cahill suggested he could miss as many as three weeks as he begins his rehab in order to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.
