Nyatanga hopes for Derby stay

Lewin Nyatanga is hoping for a future at Derby County after their Premiership promotion.

"I have a year left on my contract and we will see where we go from here," he said. "I want to play for Derby in the Premiership, that is my intention.

"I recall I was in the Under 12s at Derby the last time they were in the Premiership and went down, so it is nice to still be around at the club now they have got back.

"Everything is Premiership, the ground, the training ground, so let's hope we can stay there.

"But I know I have a lot of work to do to become a Premiership player, I just want the chance to show what I can do."

Nyatanga added: "I'm delighted for everyone at Derby, it has been a fantastic season for us and now we have the Premiership to look forward to. Now I just aim to keep working hard to get my chance and make sure the club stays in the top flight.

"I've had something of a busy season. I was on loan at Sunderland and have played a small part in their promotion and then I went to Barnsley, and feel I was able to help them avoid relegation. Then it was back to Derby towards the end of the season and I figured a few times in the run-in to promotion.

"I don't know yet about what the future holds. But the bottom line is that I want to play for Derby, they are my club and I have always supported them. I love playing for them and that is where I stand. I know I have been out on loan a long time, but I feel I made a contribution when I returned.

"I have acquired first-team experience and I am thankful for that. I feel I have improved as a player and that should help me next season."
