NOT TOO PROUD? Young turns out for Man Utd against Barnsley stiffs

Manchester United winger Ashley Young made a surprise appearance in a specially-arranged game on Monday.

The Daily Mail says Young, desperately short of form, played in a Manchester United Xl against Barnsley Reserves on Monday.

Fabio, Alexander Buttner and manager David Moyes' first signing, Guillermo Varela, also played, but Young was intended as the main beneficiary of a game designed to add sharpness to some of United's senior squad members.

By all accounts, he made the most of his opportunity, not least when he curled a free-kick round the wall and beyond the Barnsley keeper for the only goal of the game.
