Norwich boss Smith pleased with FA Cup win at Wolves

Norwich City boss Dean Smith was pleased with their FA Cup win at Wolves.

Smith was happy with what he saw from his Norwich City side after they continued their run in the Emirates FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The Canaries made it through to round five thanks to an intelligent Kenny McLean header on the stroke of half-time.

Smith said: "It was a hard-fought win. We showed lots of steel and grit in terms of how we defended.

"I wasn't quite happy with the first ten minutes of the second-half. I think we presented them a few opportunities to win the ball back on the edge of our box and it caused a few flutters.

"But it was a really good performance from the players today. I thought on the counter we looked a real threat and we created some really good chances in the game.

"It's always nice to see a set piece go in. Kenny always makes those runs and he's very good at it, it's a great little flick. He made a similar run at the Emirates against Arsenal, before I came in, and was unlucky not to score.

"He's been good for me since I came in so I'm pleased for him."

Smith was forced into a change after the starting eleven's were announced, with Josh Sargent pulling out of the squad.

"The doctor came to see me and Sarge wasn't feeling well before kick-off so we pulled him out. Przemy (Placheta) came into the team," Dean added.

"I felt for Sarge off the back of his last performance with the two goals. But I'm pleased for Przemy, it was a good 90 minutes from him. He hasn't had too many of them, he put in a good shift."

Focusing on the defensive structure in the team from a midfield perspective, Smith said: "I was pleased with the midfield. In the first-half, we made Wolves go around us and not play through us.

"I don't think Mick (McGovern) had a save to make in the first-half. We needed to give players some minutes and we've got quite a healthy squad now. Billy (Gilmour) and Mathias (Normann) needed some minutes and it's great that we've got the calibre of player now to bring off the bench."

And Smith was also pleased with the impact his players made coming off the bench.

"(Kieran) Dowelly was unfortunate he didn't win the game for us late on to make it 2-0, John Ruddy has made an exceptional save. All the subs came on and made an impact.

"Our only defeat since the New Year has been West Ham away and I thought we were ok in that game. We look a threat and have got plenty of strength in attack moving forward into a busy period."
