Norwich boss Smith on Brighton stalemate: It wasn't great

Norwich City boss Dean Smith felt they were flat for their 0-0 draw at Brighton.

Smith wanted to see more from his side on the ball in Saturday's draw.

"It wasn't great, I must be honest," he said. "Defensively, our goalkeeper and our captain led the back line really well and restricted Brighton to chance outside the box. We got an awful lot of blocks on them. We saw the gritty side of us.

"We've got good players who have been recruited to play a passing game and at the moment they're a little bit shy in confidence and I didn't think we passed the ball well enough.

"When we did, we created a chance. Hopefully, because we've been on a sequence of losses, breaking that can help us build confidence again.

"Brighton are a possession-based team and we knew that. That's why we changed the system today. Players dropping out this week made that decision for us as well. We lacked a bit of energy at times.

"I've not seen a lot of the lads for two weeks as they've been on international duty and we've had a lot pull out this week. We've now got nine injured in the treatment room, which is disappointing.

"To come here and go away with something, I suppose that's the biggest plus we can take, but it certainly wasn't a great performance.

"Max has played regularly, as have Brandon and Josh, but they're out. Ozan had just got back in the team, so it's effected us but it is what it is and we had to put in a battling performance.

"We weren't anywhere near where I want us to be on the ball but we got a point and a clean sheet at the end of the day."
