Liverpool and Belgium international striker Christian Benteke has been handed the No 9 shirt ahead of the new season.

The 24 year old will now be given the same shirt number previously worn by the likes of Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Ian St John and Fernando Torres.

"Confirmed: @bentekechris20 is #LFC's new No.9," read the post from Liverpool's official Twitter account.

The No 9 shirt became available following the departure of Rickie Lambert to West Brom.
